The work goes on ...

Once we had started by cutting

out the turf with the basic route

we desired, we had to then peg out

the levels to decide how much

dig and fill there would have to be

After this was completed our friend

John brought in a mini-digger to help

with the hard work and he very

skillfully cut out to the depths

we had marked with the pegs

We then had to move enormous

amounts of spoil from one point

 to another, making an embankment

at the far station area to accept

 some of the excess

Once this was completed we put

in edging wood (4"x1") so this

 could contain the granite

 when it arrived

A first layer of 20mm granite was

laid at about 2/3" depth and

was levelled against the wood edges

to leave an infill remaining of 2"

Sleepers 2"x3"were spread

along the bed.  The rail was bolted

down with gash end bolts and we

used large washers with a neoprene

 washer attached for better grip

The woodwork for the level

 crossings was fitted

Then the remaining granite was

laid around the sleepers to level

off with the tops of the wooden

 edging and the tops

 of the sleepers
